Finding A Cosmetic Surgeon For You
By Rachel Anderson
It's never a question of finding a cosmetic surgeon, as much as finding the right one. Even in a city as large as Toronto, it can be difficult. This is why there are a few steps you can take to ensure you find the right one. While these steps are no guarantee, hopefully, they'll at least point you in the right direction.

Some Steps
The first step is not the consultation as much as word of mouth. While one's own experience can be unique, having the distance and objectivity to listen to another's can be useful. How was the cosmetic surgeon? Did they listen? Was it a positive experience? At a minimum, a cosmetic surgeon is accountable to their patients.

Second, the bottom line should never be the lowest common denominator in your search for the right cosmetic surgeon. The cheapest "advertised" one isn't necessarily the best one. Similarly, neither is the most expensive. Experience and qualifications should take precedence over price. After all, it's your body and well-being that are at stake.

Third, taking the time with a consultation. If at the end of a consultation you remain uncomfortable with what you've heard, seek out a second opinion. After all, it's not someTHING you're getting done. It's cosmetic surgery. You need to ensure that you're dealing with someone who is knowledgeable, and is able to address your concerns.

Other Considerations
Doing your homework before taking the plunge is just as important. Making yourself aware of what kinds of procedures are available can eliminate some of the discomfort of approaching things blindly. For example, many cosmetic clinics in Toronto have web sites listing their available services. In addition to their services, they should offer some insight as to what kind of establishment they are. However, this is just one variable amongst many to be considered.

After doing your homework, you should then be able to set some realistic goals for yourself. Have a concrete vision of what you'd like to achieve and be able to communicate it clearly. As well, understanding what might be necessary in terms of recovery after the procedure is vital. Will just a good night's sleep, or scheduled follow-up appointments be necessary?

Being able to communicate what steps you may have taken beforehand to address the issues is necessary. For example, you may want liposuction in order to remove that extra bit of fat you weren't able to get rid of through regular exercise and dieting.

Finally, a knowledgeable cosmetic surgeon should be someone who cares about you, as a potential client. By being knowledgeable, they can address your needs in a realistic light. Looking at things realistically means understanding that your own health is a foremost concern.

A good cosmetic surgeon will be able discuss with you the risks and benefits of any procedure. In addition, they'll also tell you what you will need to do in order to ensure a safe and positive recovery.
